WALLA WALLA — Bennington Lake is on the rise for the coming recreation season.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tuesday began diverting water from Mill Creek into the lake. The reservoir level was lowered last fall for maintenance.
“When the lake is filled to recreation level, it will be at 1,205 feet above sea level, 10 feet higher than where it is now,” Bennington Lake Park Ranger Jeremy Nguyen said in a release.
Filling the lake to its target level could take up to a week or more depending upon springtime flow conditions in Mill Creek, Nguyen added.
Once the lake reaches recreation level, state Department of Fish and Wildlife staff and program partners from the Tri-State Steelheaders will be able to stock the lake with rainbow trout from the Lyons Ferry Fish Hatchery.
