Donna M. Speer, 77, of Walla Walla died March 8, 2013, at the Regency at The Park in College Place. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater. Concluding services and interment to follow in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home. One of 12 children, Donna was born July 15, 1935, in Holbrook, Neb. She was the daughter of Glenn and Dorothy Stowe Potter. In 1941 they moved to Milton-Freewater, where she attended local schools and graduated from McLoughlin Union High School in 1954. She began working for Whitman College.
On Sept. 27, 1957, in Milton-Freewater she married Jimmie Speer. They lived in Milton-Freewater and then moved to Walla Walla in 1965. She worked seasonal jobs and later stayed home to take care of her family. Donna enjoyed crossword puzzles, attending high school sports and watching after her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed traveling to Camano Island and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmie Speer of Walla Walla; daughter and son-in-law, Cindi and Robert Wickstrom of Camano Island, Wash.; sisters, Maxine Billings of Milton-Freewater, and Alma Gillock of Oregon City, Ore.; brothers, Paul Potter of Marysville, Wash., Leroy Potter of Kettle Falls, Wash., and Don Potter of Milton-Freewater; three grandchildren, Jordyn, Peyton and Connor. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Elvin, Leland and Rolland “Buck” Potter; and three infant siblings.
