PENDLETON — DeSales launched its prep baseball season here Monday with a trio of two-inning mini-games in a four-school jamboree at Pendleton High School.
The Irish defeated Baker 7-0 and Pendleton 3-0, and they lost to La Grande 1-0.
“Overall, we played well for our first outing,” veteran Irish coach Kim Cox said. “We were pretty good on defense, guys threw the ball well and we put the bat on it once in a while. Especially, when the other team made a mistake, we made them pay pretty good offensively.”
Senior Logan Hoeft, junior Adam Eskil and sophomore Cam Richman shared the pitching chores for DeSales.
Richman was the ace of last year’s state championship team while Hoeft and Eskil figure to be the team’s other starting pitchers.
“It’s not really settled yet,” Cox said. “But Cam appears to be our ace again this year and Adam will probably be No. 2.”
DeSales gets its first real taste of regular-season play Thursday when Weston-McEwen comes to town for a 4 p.m. single game at Ray Lane Field.
