Police warn of scam that has hit local residents

WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla police are warning local residents of a recent phone scam that has finagled more than $800 from local residents.

According to a press release from Crime Victim Advocate Sandi Olson, several individuals and businesses have received calls from a Spanish-speaking person claiming to represent Pacific Power. The caller then informs their intended victim that their power will be shut off within hours if their bill is not brought current.

Olson stated in a press release that utility companies do not request money be wired.

“If you get such a call, contact the utility company yourself and ask about any past due amounts,” Olson said.
