WALLA WALLA — Port of Walla Walla commissioners gave the green light to additional parking at the Walla Walla Regional Airport.
During a Thursday evening meeting, the three commissioners unanimously supported a proposal to add 47 spaces to the northwest corner of the parking lot in front of the terminal building.
Commission President Paul Schneidmiller said this morning the agency authorized a contract with the lowest bidder, A&B Asphalt of Milton-Freewater, for the $143,438.45 proposal.
The additional parking has been discussed for the last couple of years as a solution for overflow parking during peak travel times and to handle traffic generated through meetings and business at the terminal building.
Last year the economic development agency filed a request for proposals for the work. But the proposals were all rejected when they came in higher than the engineer’s estimate.
This time around five contractors responded to the Port’s Feb. 13 request for proposals, all lower than budgeted. Construction includes asphalt surfacing, curb and gutter, storm drain, irrigation, lighting and landscaping.
