The plumbline is set: It is Jesus, God's Word

The Lord called me into the ministry in June 1988. I was listening to a sermon entitled “Are Ye Able?” God impressed upon my heart to preach His Word.

On Jan. 1 1991, I held my first service in Okanogan.

I was tested right away on God’s Word, specifically the deity of Jesus Christ. One might think Jesus’ deity is a given in any evangelical church, but wolves in sheep’s clothing can creep in.

I studied the Word of God to share the truth of Jesus Christ with them. He is God.

In Amos 7:7, 8 reads: “Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.

“And the LORD said unto me, ‘Amos, what seest thou?’ And I said, ‘A plumbline.’ Then said the Lord, ‘Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them anymore.”

I recently did a series entitled “God Has Set A Plumbline.” God’s plan, commands, promises, statutes, precepts, etc. are sure, true and set in His Word. He is not going to change them.

Most was taken from the book of Revelation. The Lord Jesus is dictating letters to the angels (pastors) of these churches in Asia to show them (the churches) the errors (except for one church) of their ways.

The common theme is this: Jesus said: “I know thy works” and He tells them to “repent.”

Repent means to think differently. When we think differently, our actions show it.

I pray our churches are preaching Jesus Christ and Him crucified, that He is God; to love one another and to study His Word.

Ephesians 3:21 “Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” If you’re saved and need purpose, meaning and valuee, find a New Testament local church, join it, and be faithful in it.

I see America slipping away from God, and that hurts me. We must take a stand for the Lord Jesus Christ and hold true to His Word. We face opposition from the world daily basis, but I desire to show the world I belong to Jesus, and where my heart is.

God’s Word is how we determine what is right and what is not.

Jesus said “In this world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer I have overcome the world.” I know I can trust Him fully in every facet of my life.

His Word, in its original writings, is infallible, precise, perfect and without error. It is our rule of faith and practice.

People argue that the Bible is made up of fables. If so, why is it banned in 32 countries, and Jesus’ name the most offensive in the history of mankind?

Jesus said “Think not that I am come to bring peace on earth: I came not to bring peace, but a sword.” Matthew 10:34. His Word is offensive to some, but gives direction, comfort and peace. to others. 2 Timothy 3:16, 17 says “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness ...”

The plumbline is set. God told Israel He wasn’t going to pass by them anymore — what about us in America?

The world says all paths lead to God, but no, they don’t. There is only one way to God, Jesus Christ. In John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life: no man comes to the Father but by me.”

If you want eternal life, you must come to Jesus Christ, repent of your sin, accept him into your heart and believe in his death, burial and resurrection. He loves you so much he shed his blood and died for you on a cross.

But greatest of all is he rose from the dead. He said he’d return and take us to where he is. I anticipate that with great hope. If you’re not sure of your eternity, call upon him now and receive him as your savior. Thank You for reading this and may God bless you.

The Rev. Walt Emry is pastor of Living Waters Missionary Baptist Church.
