KENNEWICK — Anthony Arellano’s RBI single and Luke Reardon’s two-run triple keyed a Walla Walla High School three-run third inning that got the Blue Devils even at 3-3 here Saturday in non-conference boys baseball action against visiting Mt. Si.
Mt. Si answered the Blue Devil rally with a three-run fourth and never looked back, pounding out 13 total hits and taking advantage of seven free passes to take home a 12-5 win.
“We held our own for awhile,” Blue Devil coach Keith Gradwohl said. “(Then) we didn’t throw enough strikes and got shut down by their pitching.”
Mt. Si scored three times in the second to break a 1-1 tie before Wa-Hi got even in the third. The Blue Devils added a solo tally in the sixth.
The Blue Devil offense pounded out 11 hits, but struggled to throw strikes.
“If you throw strikes, you give yourself a chance,” Gradwohl said. “It was our guys’ (pitchers) first outing. Walking seven is too many. We’ll get better.”
Daniel Camacho led the offense with three hits. Adam Mathews blasted two doubles and eight separate Blue Devils collected at least one hit.
“We hit the ball around the yard pretty well,” Gradwohl said. “It was a chance to see a team that we hadn’t seen. Some good things happened and we’ve got some things to work on.”
Wa-Hi, 1-1 on the year, hosts Lewiston at 2 p.m. Thursday in a non-conference double dip.
