Zena Mae Saunders, 80, passed away March 3, 2013, at Cottage in the Meadow, Yakima. Zena was born on May 4, 1932, in Farmington, Wash., to William Guy and Pearl Hill. She was raised in Prosser and lived in Washington most of her life. After moving to Walla Walla she began a career with the Walla Walla Police Department, retiring as records supervisor in 1998. Zena was passionate about many things. She took great pride in her home and beautiful flower gardens, creating a real centerpiece in her neighborhood. She loved collecting, finding the best deals at yard sales and auctions. Her toothpick holder collection was undoubtedly the largest in the Walla Walla Valley. She also enjoyed hosting parties, showing off her great cooking skills. Zena was most passionate about her family and loved them very much.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Wright, Yakima, and Scot Wright, Quincy, Wash.; two daughters, Susan Hovorka (James) of Yakima, and Carla Salter (Jon), of Athena; sister, Darlene Lindsey, of Hawaii; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom Saunders; a son, John Ray Cronkhite; a sister, Persis Bowen. At her request, there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Walla Walla Police Department.
