Claremont hands Missionary men 7-2 loss


HONOLULU — Claremont-Mudd-Scripps dominated Whitman College 7-2 here Tuesday in a men’s collegiate tennis match.

The loss snapped a mini two-game winning streak for the Missionaries, who saw their season record settle to 10-5. Whitman has one more match on the Islands — the Missionaries face Hawaii Pacific Thursday morning — before returning to the mainland. The Whits, 7-1 in the Northwest Conference, resume conference play April 5 when they travel to Spokane to take on Whitworth.

Whitman got a victory from Colton Malesovas and Andrew La Cava at No. 1 doubles Tuesday, and Steven Roston was victorious for the Missionaries at No. 4 singles. Malesovas-La Cava defeated Warren Wood and Joe Dorn of C-M-S 8-6 and Roston took down the Stags’ Mac Cahill 6-4, 6-4.

Warren Wood of Claremont defeated Malesovas 6-4, 6-1 at first singles.
