RIVERSIDE — Weston-McEwen High School’s offense took awhile to get untracked in a pair of softball games at the Riverside Tournament Monday, but in each case the TigerScots got late-game rallies to back up dominant defensive and pitching performances and came away with a pair of wins.
Weston-McEwen defeated Knappa, 6-0, and Nyssa, 6-1.
Against Nyssa, the TigerScots trailed 1-0 with two outs gone in the top of the seventh before they managed a six-run rally for the win.
“That was a nailbiter,” W-M coach Jeff Griggs said.
Isabelle Dillow, who caught both games, doubled to start the run and came around for the tying run on a Kaci Furhman single. Jessica Arnold hit a hard single down the third baseline to score a pair of runs and Keegan Shepard’s three-RBI double capped the rally.
W-M was never in danger of losing its game with Knappa as pitcher Jessica Lambert held the Loggers without a hit in the 6-0 shutout.
Lambert and Arnold each had two-RBI doubles to highlight a five-run fifth inning for W-M and the TigerScots added another run in the sixth.
W-M (6-1) played Harrisburg at 10 a.m. and Riverside at 12:30 p.m. today.
