PULLMAN — Two boxers from ZAP Boxing Club in Walla Walla picked up victories in an event here over the weekend.
Luis Lara won by a second-round TKO over a fighter out of the University of Washington boxing program in the 121-pound division.
“Luis fought very well and did everything right,” ZAP coach Ramon Zamora Jr. said. “He trained hard and it paid off.”
The victory improved Lara’s record to 4-1.
In the 185-pound division, Anton Bushkovskig also won with a second-round TKO over a fighter from the host Washington State University boxing program.
“Anton was very impressive in his first fight,” Zamora said. “He took his time and was very patient. When the opportunities came open he let his hands go.”
Leo Santos, at 128 pounds, lost to a fighter out of R & C Boxing Club out of Tri-Cities.
“Leo is a very quick, tough fighter; he performed well and I am proud of the way he represented and fought,” Zamora said.
Emil Zamora made his boxing debut in the 145-pound division, but lost to a fighter out of Spokane.
“This was Emil’s first amateur fight, and although he walked away with a loss, he has learned so much more by just having gotten into the ring,” Zamora said. “I was very pleased with his performance and see him doing very well in the future.
“Everyone performed well,” he said. “We will win some and we will lose some, but just by getting in the ring to compete they are all winners in my eyes.”
