TigerScots garner two more victories at Riverside Tournament

RIVERSIDE, Ore. — Weston-McEwen’s softball team got a good look at its personnel during the Riverside Tournament Monday and Tuesday.

The TigerScots opened with victories over Knappa and Nyssa on Monday.

On Tuesday, W-M pulled out a 5-4 victory over Harrisburg before scoring 11 fifth-inning runs to rout host Riverside, 12-0.

“The first game, we played pretty good ball,” W-M coach Jeff Griggs said. “We’ve been coming out slow, and we scored in the first and third (innings), so that was good.”

Taylor Entze went the distance in the circle for the TigerScots against Harrisburg, giving up four runs — none earned — on four hits while striking out 11.

Six errors, including four in the three-run fifth inning for Harrisburg, kept the game close.

“We need to work on fundamentals on defense,” Griggs said.

With the game tied 4-all in the seventh, Entze walked, Molly von Borstel singled her to second, and Keegan Shepard picked up one of her three RBIs in the game with the game-winning hit.

Against Riverside, the TigerScots saw much slower pitching and it took them until the fourth inning to adjust. Jessica Lambert singled to open the fourth, and Isabelle Dillow got an RBI hit for what would prove to be the game-winning score.

For good measure, W-M plated 11 runners in the fifth to end the game early.

The TigerScots are now 8-1 on the season after the tournament.

“We played four different teams, saw a lot of different pitching and I think that’s going to make us better,” Griggs said. “This will benefit us greatly.”

W-M is now off until heading to Elgin on April 6, and opens Special District 5 play on April 9 against Pilot Rock.
