RICHLAND — Hanford rode three singles victories to a 4-3 Mid-Columbia Conference girls tennis victory over Walla Walla High School here Wednesday.
Danielle Thondy picked up the Blue Devils’ lone singles win, with Allison Mehn and Rachel Schueller teams up for one Wa-Hi doubles victory, and Rosa Tobin and Mari Arceo the other.
“All the girls played really well today,” Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said. “I’m really proud of how they all battled. We strengthened our doubles teams, which moved some players into new positions. Each one of them handled the change with grace and composure. They walked away with some great experience to add to their game.
“In our singles, Danielle Thongdy got her first win of the year in the No. 4 spot,” he said. “Danielle played some solid tennis and got us a valuable point.
“Our doubles highlights came with Rosa Tobin and Mari Arceo continuing their winning ways at the No. 2 spot, while Allison Mehn and Rachel Schueller came back from 0-3 in the third set to win at the No. 1 doubles spot, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
“We got a lot of learning done today — more than any practice could provide,” Peck said. “We would have loved to have won a close one like this, but the experience we gained was just as valuable.”
Wa-Hi next heads to Southridge on April 11.
