Athena Public Library to hold open house Monday

ATHENA — The Athena Public Library board will hold a library open house, 418 Main St., 2-6 p.m. Monday. A special event honoring Dolores Sheard, Athena’s librarian from 1977-1998, will be part of the celebration at 5 p.m.

Sheard, a lifelong city resident and 1944 graduate of Athena High School, served the community for just over 20 years as its librarian.

The presentation in Sheard’s memory will round off the afternoon’s open house hosted by the Athena Library Advisory Board.

A collection of young adult novels has been purchased and donated to the library in memory of Sheard by her family and her many friends. Sheard’s daughters, Rashell Lewis and Debra Carter, will be present.

Refreshments will be served. Tours of the building will be held by request and library cards can be requested too.
