EAST WENATCHEE — Both the Walla Walla High School boys and girls track and field teams recorded second-place finishes here Friday during the Eastmont Invitational meet at Wildcat Stadium.
The Blue Devil boys had one individual register a first-place performance. Sean Newcomb won the 1600 (4 minutes, 24.58 seconds).
Robert Miller, Stuart Gillen, Darnell Handcox, and Ethan Gardner teamed up to win the 400 relay (43.29).
Jeremy Larson placed second in the discus (147 feet, 1 inch).
On the girls side, Wa-Hi got individual victories from Ashley Cornia (300 hurdles, 46.75), Katarina Tonhdavong (discus, 118-4), and Maddie Sirmon (javelin, 119-0).
The Blue Devil foursome of Brittany Gibbar, Dominique Cox, Maggie Callan, and Hannah Moeller joined forces to win the 400 relay (50.92). Brittany Gibbar, Allyson Gibbar, Callan, and Moeller prevailed in the 800 relay (1:48.15).
Cornia was second in the triple jump (34-2.5) and Madi Doepker finished second in the javelin (108-4).
Cox, Callan, Cornia, and Rachel Nelson were runners-up in the 1600 relay (4:06.08).
“It was a great day,” Wa-Hi coach Eric Hisaw said. “We have nothing to be unhappy about. The kids competed really well. I’m ecstatic about the way the kids performed.
“It was a great meet for our kids to be involved in,” Hisaw said. “They were fantastic.”
Wa-Hi hosts Richland and Kennewick April 11 before competing in the Pasco Invite on April 13.
