Wa-Hi girls take 6-1 Mid-Columbia win from Riverhawks

WALLA WALLA — It took a three-set victory in No. 4 singles for Chiawana High School to avoid a shutout at the hands of Walla Walla’s girls tennis team at the Walla Walla Country Club Tuesday.

Allison Mehn swept Chiawana’s Julie Campos, 6-0 and 6-0, at No. 1 singles to key a 6-1 Wa-Hi victory over the Riverhawks in Mid-Columbia Conference play.

“Allison Mehn, Rachel Schueller and Hailey Lewis all played great tennis at their respective one, two and three singles positions,” Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said in a press release. “All three were very consistent and confident throughout their matches — which made them tough to beat.”

The Blue Devils swept doubles play, with Rosa Tobin and Mari Arceo winning the No. 1 doubles match in two games after taking the second game in extra points, 6-3 and 7-6 (7-4).

“We also got some very good play from our doubles teams,” Peck said. “Rosa Tobin and Mari Arceo at No. 1 doubles, Jaime Quaresma and Lexi Swenson at No. 2 doubles and Jazmin Duran and Jennifer Bautista at No. 3 doubles all performed brilliantly to bring home points for the team.”

The Blue Devils have their final match of the season at Kennewick Thursday at 2 p.m.

District tournament play is May 10-11 at a place to be determined.
