KENNEWICK — Kennewick’s girls tennis team edged Walla Walla High School, 4-3, in Mid-Columbia Conference play here Thursday.
“The girls put in a great effort today,” Blue Devils coach Keven Peck said. “We swept the doubles, but couldn’t string enough games together to generate a singles point.
“Our best chance at a singles point came with Catelyn Buettner at the No. 4 spot,” he said. “Catelyn played really well and handled the pressure of a match point like she had done it many times before. She fell 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, but the experience she gained was invaluable.
“In our doubles matches, Rachel Schueller and Allison Mehn played well at No. 1 doubles, while Rosa Tobin and Mari Arceo continued their winning streak at the No. 2 doubles spot,” Peck said. “In No. 3 doubles, Jaime Quaresma and Lexi Swenson teamed up for the last time this season to earn solid point.”
The match finished off the regular season for Wa-Hi, with the district tournament slated next weekend.
“I couldn’t ask for a better effort from the girls,” Peck said. “They battled hard for every point — as they always do. Now it is time to prepare for postseason play.”
