Trial date set for woman accused of cellphone robbery

WALLA WALLA — A woman was arraigned Thursday in Walla Walla County Superior Court on a charge that she robbed an acquaintance of her cellphone last month near Lions Park in College Place.

Breanne N. Rutherford, 20, pleaded innocent to second-degree robbery and her trial was set for July 23.

According to a College Place police report filed in court, Rutherford got into the car of Tasha M. Knopf before 11 p.m. April 16, started hitting her, then took Knopf’s cellphone from the center console and said, “This is mine now.”

Knopf had gone to the location to pick up a female who had called her saying she needed help because Rutherford had pulled a gun on her, the police report says.

It adds that Knopf and Rutherford have had “previous incidents.”

Rutherford, of Pasco, was arrested and booked into the Walla Walla County Jail. She was ordered released April 19 pending further court proceedings.
