Our daughter, who we raised in Walla Walla but now lives in Shoreline, once said: “If I go back to Walla Walla, I might as well go back and enjoy the Stampede.” We think our daughter’s thoughts sum up a lot of people’s sentiment — getting together to celebrate Mother’s Day, reunions to enjoy families and friends, and ultimately to have fun and celebrate the beginning of summer.
Simply put, Americana at its best!
When you go to the Hot Air Balloon Stampede, please remember the 300-plus volunteers from our community who have spent the better part of six months preparing for this free community event. Please thank the local businesses that have stepped up to help fund the event. Consider thanking the Chamber of Commerce that has spent countless hours not only coordinating balloon launches but also youth art and design contests, the Arts & Crafts Fair, various musical and live performances, the Nite-Glow, the Car Show & Shine, Champagne Reception, the Balloonsday Run and Walk, Spelling Bee, Kids Zone, the Crime Watch pancake breakfast and much, much more.
The Stampede simply brings out the best of our community. Certainly nobody can control the weather, but we can enjoy friends, family and this great community event — rain or shine! The Stampede is a happy, fun event, staged by local citizens to celebrate many unique aspects of our Valley. At the end of the weekend, please raise a glass to the many unsung volunteers, businesses and organizations who thought enough of our community to step up and make this event possible!
Walla Walla is a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family. The Stampede is a great example!
