Columbia Basin sweeps Warrior softball team, 12-1 and 3-1

WALLA WALLA — Columbia Basin swept Walla Walla Community College at home Saturday, 12-1 and 3-1.

WWCC ends the season at 12-16.

“We are disappointed that we didn’t make the tournament,” WWCC coach Mike Staudenmaier said. “I am still very proud of our team and how they showed a lot of character and class throughout a very up-and-down year. They worked very hard on and off the field all year.”

Staudenmaier also said he was glad to have the chance of coaching all four graduating sophomores: Brandy Knowles, Kate Hawk, Kelsey Locke and Kelly Morton.

“They (sophomores) are great kids and tremendous people and our Warrior family will miss them.”

Game one ended after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The Warriors’ Kendyl Hamilton provided WWCC’s only offense of the game, smashing a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth.

In game two, Kaitlin Erm lasted five innings, giving up five hits, three runs and only one earned run.
