Ferris eliminates Wa-Hi from soccer regionals, 4-1

SPOKANE — Ferris eliminated Wa-Hi from regionals Saturday with a 4-1 victory in Class 4A boys soccer at Spokane’s Joe Albi Stadium.

The Blue Devils fired home a tieing goal in the first half of the loser-out game, but it wasn’t enough as Ferris went on to post three more goals and advance to state.

Ferris scored first at the seven minute mark and the Blue Devils tied it eight minutes later, but that proved to be Wa-Hi’s last hurrah on this day.

After Ferris scored to take a 1-0 lead, Wa-Hi answered as Francisco Sanchez found the back of the net off an assist from Gerardo Gomez to draw Wa-Hi even at 1-1 in the 15th minute mark.

Ferris and Wa-Hi battled through 30 minutes of scoreless soccer to open the second half. Ferris scored twice in the last 10 minutes to pull out the 4-1 win.

The Blue Devils got off eight shots and Wa-Hi keeper Mason Ahrens made six saves.
