IRRIGON — Jessica Lambert and Isabelle Dillow knocked in runs in a three-run Weston-McEwen third here in the opener of a Special District 5 doubleheader against Irrigon Saturday and pitcher Molly von Borstel made those three runs stand up for a 3-1 win.
Irrigon rebounded and took advantage of seven TigerScot errors to split the doubleheader with a 14-4 win in the nightcap.
von Borstel went all the way in the circle and finished with a five hitter in the opening win.
W-M fell behind early in the second game as Irrigon scored in every inning to earn the split. Natalie Arnold collected two hits to lead W-M.
“Game two was a horse of a different color,” W-M coach Jeff Griggs said of the split. “If we would’ve swept we would’ve gotten second (in league).”
The split leaves W-M third at the close of the regular season. W-M will host a loser-out playoff game against Echo/Stanfield Tuesday.
