SPOKANE — Walla Walla Community College’s baseball team ended its 2013 regular season with an NWAACC Eastern Region split against the host Sasquatch here Saturday afternoon.
Spokane won the opener, 11-5, and the Warriors took the nightcap, 8-5.
WWCC finished league play 19-9, good for a second-place tie with Yakima Valley, and will take a 27-17 overall record into the East Region playoffs which will be held next Friday through Sunday.
The Sasquatch jumped to an 8-1 lead after three innings of Saturday’s opener and never looked back.
In game two, Walla Walla put up four runs in the first inning, but Spokane responded with two runs in the bottom half of inning one.
CCS closed to within 4-3 in the fifth before the Warriors tallied in the sixth.
Spokane scored once in the bottom of the sixth and tied the game with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
WWCC’s Jesse Houser, who collected five hits on the day including three in the second game, produced the game’s most critical blow — a two-out, three-run triple in the top of the ninth that proved to be the difference.
The Sasquatch put two runners on in the bottom of the ninth inning, but failed to score.
