Bagpipes and haggis and kilts, oh my. Shortbread munching, dancers flinging, pipers skirling, tartan wearing and caber tossing all come to mind for this lassie/columnist, a member of the Lindsay Clan.

Once the Walla Walla Gathering of the Clans Scottish Society is up and running, local Scot-o-philes will have an umbrella under which to meet, according to founder Douglas Finch.

“I created it as a place where Scottish people and people of Celtic culture could meet and discuss events and happenings. I would love to see it grow into a non-profit group that would hold several events such as Robert Burn’s Day and National Tartan Day, participate in parades and hopefully in the future, maybe have our own highland games in Walla Walla,” Douglas said.

The central room in the Walla Walla Public Library, 238 E. Alder St., is now rocking a big-screen TV, good lighting and a nice projector, according to Executive Director Beth Hudson.

These enhancements have enabled the library to live stream the No. 1 international best-selling author Dan Brown live from Lincoln Center at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Brown will be live-streamed in New York City just one day after the release of “Inferno,” his next Robert Langdon thriller.

The special appearance with codes, symbols and secrets, will be Brown’s only public appearance. He’s expected to discuss the novel, a wide range of topics and a few surprises, Beth said. Online see wallawallapubliclibrary.org to place a hold on it.
