WALLA WALLA — Contemporary thread artist and quilter, Barbara Shapel, will present a one-day workshop in Walla Walla twice in June.

The workshop will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 8 in the Washington Department of Transportation building, 1210 G St. and again on June 9 at Eastgate SDA Church, 380 N. Tausick Way.

Shapel will demonstrate thread painting, which creates densely quilted patterns that are achieved with little or no marking done on the surface of the quilt.

The workshop is a hands-on program. Participants must bring a sewing machine. Participants can expect to take home an 18-inch by 24-inch quilted project using Shapel’s pattern Japanese Maple: Moon Rising.

Cost for the workshop is $50. A kit fee of $8 will be paid at the workshop.

Pre-registration is suggested, as class size is limited. To request a registration form and supplies list email secretary@wwvqg.com or from grammarmom@yahoo.com.
