WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla High School’s Ellie Rassbach struck out 11 Mac-Hi batters, and the Blue Devils finally cracked Pioneers starter Colette Robert in the top of the seventh for some runs in a 7-0 non-league tuneup game Thursday at the Walla Walla Community College field.
The Blue Devils, who won the Mid-Columbia Conference District championship last weekend, now focus on the regional tournament.
They take the No. 1 seed and play Central Valley, the No. 1 seed from the Greater Spokane League, at noon Saturday at Richland.
A victory in that game gives them the top seed to the state tournament next weekend.
A loss pits them in a 2 p.m. against the winner of the Richland vs. Mead game for the second seed to state.
On Thursday, Rassbach and Robert were locked in a pitchers’ duel until the seventh inning when Wa-Hi’s offense found its stride and plated seven runs for the victory.
Robert struck out eight Blue Devils in the complete-game in the circle for Mac-Hi, giving up nine Wa-Hi hits.
The Pioneers managed three hits against Rassbach.
