WALLA WALLA — Vonleah Gertrude Scheer, 96, passed away May 14, 2013, at the Washington Odd Fellows Home, 534 Boyer Ave.
Vonleah was born June 10, 1916, in Beaver City, Neb., to Fred Charles and Edith Pearl McKennan Bricker. She attended schools in Fremont, Neb. On June 7, 1947, she and Emil A. Scheer married in Portland. Emil passed away in 1985. She had lived in LaPine, Ore., for more than 20 years prior to moving to Milton-Freewater, where she had lived since 1989.
She enjoyed her role as a homemaker and especially loved canning, sewing and crocheting. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in LaPine.
Vonleah is survived by her daughter, Marion Lee Cernac of Santa Cruz, Calif.; her son, Steven Roy Scheer of Portland; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dwight Odeen Bricker as an infant; and Lorene A. Huffman in 2009; and her brother, Donald Duane Bricker.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2013, at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road. The graveside service and vault interment will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens, 300 S.E. Myra Road, College Place.
