April 12, 1924 — May 17, 2013
Dorothy J. Harvey, 89, of Portland, died peacefully in her sleep on May 17, 2013.
Dorothy Jewell Bernice Ackart was born on April 12, 1924, in Cushing, Okla., to Jesse and Etta Ackart. The family moved to Freewater in 1937, and she lived most of her life in Oregon.
Dorothy graduated from Walla Walla Valley Academy in College Place, and her career included work as a nurse’s aide in Hermiston; work for orthopedic surgeons in Walla Walla; work in the accounting department at JC Penney; and for the state of Oregon’s Support Enforcement Department.
She loved road trips, and when she was younger, rock hunting. Agate hunting on the Oregon Coast with her children and brother held special memories for her. Her hobbies were doll collecting and genealogy.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren Meade Tall, who passed away exactly eight weeks after they were married; her second husband, Luther Eugene Clifford, who passed away after nearly 20 years of marriage; and by her third husband, Floyd Alton Harvey, who passed away in December of 2012. She was an active member the Lents SDA Church in Portland.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Mary Anne and Don Hughes, Meade and Kathryn Clifford, Marsha and David Harvey, Mikki Gaddis, Mark and Tami Clifford; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Honoring her wishes, her ashes will be placed with her first husband. Dorothy was loved by everyone she met and she left the world a better place for having been here.
A memorial for family and friends will be scheduled at a later date.
