The Walla Walla wine community lost one of the bastions of the industry last weekend with the death of Mike Dunham.
The co-owner of Dunham Cellars died at his home last Saturday after a four-year battle with renal cell carcinoma, his wife, Joanne Dunham, said.
The graveside funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens.
Founded in 1997 by Michael, Joanne and Eric Dunham, “the winery has been a wonderful part of the Dunham family’s life, providing many opportunities to meet new friends, to travel and to support many great causes and charities,” Joanne wrote.
“Always a gracious host, countless friends and business associates will remember their introduction to ‘Mike Dunham, Walla Walla,’ and Mike’s uncanny ability to make people feel welcome. His constant presence at the winery will be deeply missed and his beloved canine companion, Maysy, will continue to be the tasting room greeter.”
Contributions may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Society, Walla Walla Community Hospice or charity of the donor’s choice through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. Friends and family can also sign the online guest book at herringgroseclose.com.
