WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Bruins mauled the Pasco Sun Devils 16-1 Monday afternoon in a rainy Central Washington Junior American Legion League baseball game at Warriors Field on the Walla Walla Community College campus.
The game was called after six innings due to the wet conditions and completed a three-game season sweep of the Sun Devils for the Walla Wallans. The Bruins opened their 2013 season Sunday in Pasco with a doubleheader sweep of the Sun Devils, 7-4 and 5-1.
“Pasco is a young team,” Bruins coach Jason Parsons said. “And I think they ran out of pitching.”
Adam Eskil pitched five scoreless innings for the Bruins, allowing three hits while striking out five and walking two. Kyle Barker pitched the final frame and yielded Pasco’s lone run.
The Bruins’ bats, meanwhile, produced runs in every inning but the sixth, with five-run volleys in the first and fourth innings doing most of the damage.
Ali Buentello led the way with two doubles and a single, scoring three times and driving in one run. Reid Magnaghi had a pair of singles and scored once.
“We hit the ball sharply and scored some runs,” Parsons said. “Our pitchers threw the ball well and we played solid defense behind them.
“The kids really did a good job this weekend,” Parsons added. “But we also spotted some things that we need to clean up for sure.”
The Bruins return to action Saturday when they entertain the Spokane Wild in a 2 p.m. non-league doubleheader at WWCC. Walla Walla returns to league play Sunday against the Kennewick Dusters in a 1 p.m. twin bill at Murr Field on the Wa-Hi campus.
