WALLA WALLA — The Walla Walla Community College volleyball team secured the No. 3 playoff seed in the NWAACC East Region with a four-set win against Yakima Valley Friday.
The Warriors (8-3 in league, 24-12 overall) downed the Yaks 21-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-18 and still have a chance to move up to the No. 2 seed.
“Half the team played really well tonight and half performed at a sub-par level,” Warriors coach Tim Toon said. “Fortunately, we are talented enough to win anyway. At this point in the season, style points go out the window and we have to focus on winning.”
Chantelle Zamora led WWCC with 12 kills and 11 digs. Denise Comfort finished with eight kills, 10 digs and five blocks.
Samantha Thompson added eight kills and four blocks.
Nicole Lambert had 15 digs and Breanna Mehling dished out a team-high 22 assists. Allie Johnson also racked up 21 assists and 10 digs.
“Now that we have qualified for the playoffs,” Toon said, “we’ll need to raise the expectations in hopes of another top 3 finish at the Championship Tournament.”
