Robert ‘Bob’ Dodgin

Nov. 5, 1954 — Oct. 26, 2013

Robert “Bob” Dale Dodgin, born Nov. 5, 1954, in Los Angeles to Ray Dodgin and Gladys (Brock) Dodgin, died Oct. 26, 2013, in Kahului, Maui, Hawaii.

Bob was co-owner and general manager of Liberty Tax Service in Maui, Hawaii, and Walla Walla. He also worked for Jerry Watts for several years in residential construction. Bob was in commercial and residential construction for 40 years. He had a soft, calm demeanor and made lasting friendships with clients in Walla Walla and Maui.

Bob was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, most loving and caring husband and a friend to anyone he encountered. He would help anyone without hesitation, not asking for anything in return. Growing up, Bob went to numerous grade schools, so his stepfather could follow the construction work. He saw a lot of country and learned at a young age friendships were important. After graduation, Bob moved to Los Angeles, where he met and married his first wife, Kim Carver, and they had a daughter, Jennifer.

Bob returned to Walla Walla in 1976 and rekindled a long-lasting love with his junior high sweetheart, Sharon Brown. They celebrated 35 years of marriage on May 25 and 42 years of eternal love, being best friends and companions. A dream almost completed was to retire on Maui on a sailboat.

Bob was a Little League baseball coach for three years and very involved in his children’s lives. Spending time with his grandchildren, playing or guiding them was so important to him, he was Grandpa Bob. No matter how far away Bob was working, he was always home for our children’s activity, birthday or event. He was an avid NASCAR fan, loved the outdoors; boating, jet skiing, snow skiing, skydiving, traveling with his wife, Sharon, and going to concerts. We took many trips to the Gorge for concerts, boating and jet skiing with the kids and friends. He rode his Triumph Rocket III to Canada twice for the Triumph motorcycle rally; he loved the ride on his bike so much he rode it to San Diego to have it shipped to Maui when he started working with Liberty Tax there.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon, at home in Walla Walla; his sons, Christopher Norris (Amber) of Spokane, William Maurer, Joshua Dodgin (Kerri) and Robert Dodgin Jr. in Walla Walla; his daughters, Jennifer Viau of Fresno, Calif., and Sheena Dodgin of Milton Freewater. Bob loved and adored his 19 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving are brothers, Donald R. Dodgin of Newport Ritchy, Fla., and Ray Dodgin of Okay, Okla.; and sisters, Phyllis McCall of Heavener, Okla., JoAnn Capella of Palm Springs, Calif., and Lisa Dodgin of Ohio and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Dodgin, George and Gladys Maurer; his brothers, Dennis and Darrel Dodgin; and a sister, Debbie Dodgin
