Christina (Christy) Petrie

Feb. 17, 1953 — Oct. 23, 2013

Christina “Christy” Carol Petrie was born Feb. 17, 1953, in Walla Walla and passed away Oct. 23, 2013, in Walla Walla surrounded by family.

Christy is survived by her parents, Eugene and Betty Petrie; three brothers, Gene (Robi), Tim (Jill) and Steve (Nonie). Christy is also survived by many nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles; cousins; four adopted grandchildren; and many foster children.

Christy’s family moved to the greater Seattle-Tacoma area when she was quite young. She attended Tacoma Jr. Academy for eight years, graduated from Auburn Academy in 1971, then attended and graduated from Walla Walla College with a degree in elementary education. Christy worked in education, financial services and at a local bakery before beginning her 26-year career at St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. She enjoyed many of her responsibilities, especially working with the Providence St. Mary Foundation and supervising the volunteers at the medical center. Those who became acquainted with Christy knew of her lifelong love of working with children. Christy’s participation with foster parenting allowed her to share her compassionate spirit and loving home with many children over the past decades. Many of these children, now adults, have returned to share their deep appreciation for the loving care Christy provided. Christy had many interests, however, studying the Bible, spending time with family and friends (especially the kids), being outside in God’s nature, and fishing with her brothers were at the top of the list. She also enjoyed hobbies of knitting, crocheting, writing poetry, singing, sketching and painting.

Christy was an active member of the Service League of St. Mary Medical Center and Walla Walla Choral Society. She also was a past officer of the Washington State Bowling Association.

Celebration of life service will be Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at 1 p.m. at College Place Village SDA Church, 715 S.E. 12th St., College Place. Memorial may be made to Providence St. Mary Medical Center, Cancer Center Special Needs Fund, 401 W. Poplar St., PO Box 1477, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
