CLARKSTON — Pomeroy’s volleyball team continued to roll through its season, this time in the Southeast 1B District tournament semifinal against Colton, 25-17, 25-15, 28-26, at Clarkston High School Wednesday night.

The victory improves the Pirates to 6-1 in league play, 19-6 overall. They next face Tekoa-Oakesdale at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the same gym, with the winner taking the top seed to the state tournament. The loser plays the winner of the No.3-No. 4 match for the second seed to state.

Leading the way for Pomeroy was Mackenzie Monahan, who had 10 kills, three blocks and was 15-of-15 serving.

Savannah Ruark recorded nine kills and three blocks, Ally Bott had 10 kills, Ireland Mayfield dished out 27 assists and smacked four aces, and McKenzie Uto picked up 13 digs and “was rock solid in the back row,” Pirates coach Bruce Crossfield said.

Pomeroy found itself trailing 17-11 in the third set, and then fought off set point twice before pulling out the victory.

Monahan, a senior, Ruark, a junior, and Mayfield, a sophomore, were all selected to the all-SE1B League first team, and Pirate freshman Kacey Halbert earned honorable mention, in a vote of league coaches.

“(I’d) like to thank all the Pomeroy fans that came over,” Crossfield said, “and we hope to see them on Saturday.”
