Woman arrested after high-speed chase in Milton-Freewater area

MILTON-FREEWATER — Milton-Freewater police arrested an 18-year-old woman after a car chase Tuesday that led police from the city to Stateline Road, and back to Umapine.

According to Milton-Freewater Police Chief Doug Boedigheimer, one of his officers attempted to stop a red Pontiac in the 900 block of Main Street at about 6:30 p.m.. The car fled north, Boedigheimer said, at one point hitting 50 mph in a 25 mph zone.

As the car approached the Washington-Oregon border, Milton-Freewater police called for mutual aid from the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

The Sheriff’s Office described the eluding vehicle as a 1994 Buick Skylark, which was found abandoned at 51128 Lawson Lane in Umapine. Deputy Dale Preas brought in K9 Gudy and a short time later discovered the suspected driver, Tanelle Hays of College Place, hiding underneath a truck canopy.

Hays was arrested on investigation of possession of methamphetamine, criminal trespass and hit and run.
