REDMOND — Weston-McEwen’s volleyball season ended here Saturday with a fifth-place finish in the Oregon Class 2A state tournament.
The TigerScots, who finished 30-3 overall, defeated Kennedy in its opener, 25-16, 25-11, 25-17 before losing to Reedsport, 17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 17-25, 15-13 and defending state champion Culver, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21.
Culver ended up third in the tourney while Kennedy placed fourth.
W-M’s statistical leaders included Taryn Coffman with 83 assists and nine blocks, Taylor Rudolph with seven assists and 44-of-47 serving with an ace, Molly vonBorstel with 52 digs, 53 kills, and four aces, Lacey Kuehn with 18 kills, Keegan Shephard with 12 kills and eight blocks, Betsy West with seven kills and 13 blocks, Melanie Sederburg with seven kills, seven blocks and four aces, Danni Dearing with 24 digs and 47-of-49 serving with four aces, Madison Carlin with 17 digs, Melina Baker with 26-of-29 serving efficiency with an ace, and Natalie Arnold with 36 digs and nine aces.
“We fought hard,” Weston-McEwen coach Shawn White said. “The girls played their hearts out. We played well. It was a great tournament.
“We ran into two teams that were a little bit better than we were,” White said. “But I can’t express how proud and pleased I am with these young ladies.”
