Seminoles tighten grip on BCS's No. 2 spot

Florida State took firm hold of second place in the Bowl Championship Series standings behind top-ranked Alabama and grabbed the inside track to the national-championship game.

Standings are based on an average of the USA Today coaches poll, Harris poll and computer rankings.

The Seminoles also were in second last week, but seemed likely to get passed by Oregon if the Ducks could have remained unbeaten. But Stanford defeated Oregon 26-20 in a Pac-12 showdown Thursday, which helped Florida State.

The Seminoles (.9619 BCS average) are a solid second behind Alabama (.9958) in the USA Today coaches poll and Harris poll, and second in the computer rankings.

Third-place Ohio State, fourth-place Stanford and fifth-place Baylor each moved up one spot in the BCS standings and Oregon dropped from third to sixth.
