WALLA WALLA — The Northwest Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll is out and the Whitman College women’s basketball team is the favorite to take the conference crown, receiving seven of the possible nine first-place votes and 70 overall points.

The Missionaries are coming off their most successful season in program history as they went 23-6 overall and advanced to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Division III national basketball tournament. Whitman posted a 13-3 mark in conference, which earned them second place and an NWC Tournament home game.

Four starters, including three All-NWC performers, return.

First-team selection and DIII News preseason All-American Sarah Anderegg averaged 13.7 points per game and led the conference in field goal percentage.

Second-team point guard Heather Johns ranked fifth in conference scoring at nearly 12 per game, and honorable mention Meghan White notched 8.3 boards per contest.

The fourth returning starter is guard Tiffani Traver who poured in over eight points per game.

Whitman is also highly regarded in the national preseason rankings; D3Hoops.com has the Missionaries in the 11th slot and DIII News has them ranked at No. 12.
