Gerald “Jerry” Musick

1936 - 2013

Gerald “Jerry” Musick

May 31, 1936 — Nov. 16, 2013

Jerry was born in Eagle Rock, Calif., on May 31, 1936, to Jesse LeRoy Musick and Dolly Pearl Musick. Jerry was the youngest of five children. He had an older brother, Joe Musick, and three older sisters, Shirley Bengston, Patsy Cooper and Louise Burt.

Jerry joined the Navy when he was 17 years old. He served in the Navy from 1953 to 1955. After being discharged from the Navy he joined the Air Force from 1955 to 1958. While in the Air Force, he served overseas in Iceland.

He met Shirley Harris and they were married on Aug. 16, 1958, in Highland Park, Calif. Shirley had two young sons, Frank Harris and Wesley Harris, when they were married. In 1961, they welcomed a daughter, Jerri Lynn, to the family. He and his family moved to Walla Walla from West Convina, Calif., in May of 1968. In Walla Walla, he worked for Crown Cork and Seal from 1969 to 1996, when he retired after 27 years.

Jerry always had a dream about learning how to fly. In 1970, he started taking flying lessons in Pendleton. He completed his training and was able to get his pilot license in 1972, fulfilling his dream of flying his own airplane. His hobby was also collecting old radio shows from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. He was quite the radio show buff! If you had a question about any of them, he was the go-to guy for the answers.

Jerry and Shirley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August 2008 with their family and friends by renewing their wedding vows.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Shirley at home; his two step-sons, Frank Harris of Walla Walla and Wesley Harris and his wife Connie from Prescott, Ariz.; his daughter, Jerri Lynn Lawson and her husband Dan from College Station, Texas. He has three sisters-in-law, Beverly Kuljis of Walla Walla, Nancy Hubbard of Newark, Calif., and Rosemary Musick of El Monte, Calif.; and one brother-in-law, Clyde Hubbard of Newark, Calif. He has seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother; three sisters; a brother-in-law, Jack Kuljis; and brother in-law and sister-in-law, George and Velma Riley.
