A new principal and a new associate have been named at USKH Inc., the employee-owned design, architecture, engineering, environmental, planning and land surveying firm that has an office in Walla Walla.
Dale Smythe, member of the American Institute of Architects, was named a principal, while Daniel Karas, also a member of AIA, was named an associate.
Karas, a USKH employee since 2007, works from the Walla Walla office at 5 N. Colville St. Before joining the company he worked nine years for architectural and design firms in Seattle and Chicago. He earned a bachelor’s in architectural studies from the University of Illinois in 1998 and a Master of Architecture from the University of Washington in 2004.
His major projects include the architectural design of multiple phases at the Power House Theatre; renovation and addition to the new Columbia Rural Electric Association building; renovation of the O’Rourke Building; and design for the construction of a new dorm for the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center in Alaska.
Smythe, the Anchorage Regional Architecture manager, has spent his professional career with USKH after joining in 2001. His projects include several rural school projects in Alaska. He was project manager for the Eielson Air Force Base Physical Fitness Center renovation, which was a winner in the 2009 U.S. Air Force Design Awards Program.
USKH has been serving clients throughout Alaska and the Pacific Northwest since 1972. In addition to Walla Walla, its Washington offices are in Spokane and Ferndale.
