Valda B. Coe of Milton-Freewater passed away Nov. 16, 2013, at her home at the age of 87 years. At her request there will be no funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the FFA through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
Valda was born July 6, 1926, in Arlington, Wash., the daughter of Steve and Grace Johnson Ochampaugh. She attended schools in Arlington and graduated from high school there. She then attended the Nurses Cadet Corps in 1944. Valda worked as a practical nurse in Arlington, then at the County Hospital in Monroe, Wash. She had lived in several areas before moving to Milton-Freewater in 1954, and has lived here since.
On Jan. 22, 1969, she married Don Coe in Kennewick. Valda had worked for Leon Huber at the Pastime in Milton-Freewater. With her husband she had owned and operated the Horseshoe Club and the Pastime Café and Bar. Valda later became a real estate salesperson. She enjoyed fishing, dancing and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 22, 2006. She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Valda is survived by a son, Lanny Knopf of Milton-Freewater; a daughter, Diane Gregory of Dayton, Nev.; two step-sons, Tim Coe of Prairie City, Ore., Tom Coe of Sunnyside, Wash.; two step-daughters, Sharon Angelo of Corbett, Ore., Susan Coon of Portland; a brother, Joe Ochampaugh of Wenatchee; a sister, Georgine Gavin of Oak Harbor, Wash.; numerous grandchildren, great-grand children, and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
