Spokane man arrested after crash knocks out traffic light

WALLA WALLA – Police arrested a 33-year-old Spokane man on investigation of driving while intoxicated Tuesday evening after he knocked over a traffic light at the intersection of Alder Street and Third Avenue.

Joseph T. Neuman was backing his 2004 Ford pickup truck east on Alder when his truck jumped the curb and downed the traffic light, according to Tim Bennett, spokesman for the Walla Walla Police Department.

The light and powerlines landed in the middle of the intersection, and police shut down the street for several hours, Bennett said.

Walla Walla Street Supervisor George Bell said he hopes to have the light working again early next week.

“The signal did not really get damaged,” Bell said, adding the cost for repairs won’t be known until Pacific Power replaces the power pole.
