Whit women beat Redlands

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Heather Johns scored a game-high 24 points and Sarah Anderegg hauled in 14 rebounds Friday as the 11th-ranked Whitman women’s basketball team beat the University of Redlands, 66-61, during the first round of the Hampton Inn Classic II.

The Missionaries outscored the Bulldogs 38-29 in the second period. Whitman shot only 31.3 percent (29.7 percent in the first half) but outrebounded Redlands 47 to 37, holding an edge in second-chance points by nine.

In addition to her 24 points, Johns added eight rebounds and three assists. Anderegg tallied 13 points and had three assists. Meghan White added nine points and eight rebounds. Hailey Ann Maeda also had nine points.
