LDS Walla Walla Stake creates new congregation

WALLA WALLA — President John Rowley of the Walla Walla Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Monday announced the creation of an additional congregation.

New leaders have been chosen for two LDS congregations, which have about 300 members each.

The congregational boundary realignment for Walla Walla’s 2nd Ward resulted in an additional ward, named the College Place Ward. Kelly Taylor is bishop of the 2nd Ward. Brad Hafen is first counselor and Andy Hall is second counselor.

Rick Garrett was chosen as bishop of the College Place Ward. Jarred Hawkins is first counselor and Charles Chamberlain is second counselor.

According to a news release, LDS wards are organized geographically so members can attend worship services near their homes.

Ward names generally reflect the neighborhoods within general boundaries of an area.

“Stake” refers to a group of wards or congregations in an area.
