WALLA WALLA — A defendant accused of participating in attacks on two men in the Eastgate area in May entered a guilty plea Monday afternoon in Superior Court to a gross-misdemeanor charge.
Emil E. Zamora pleaded guilty to riot and faces up to a year in the County Jail when he’s sentenced later.
However, in a plea agreement, the prosecution is recommending credit for time served before he was released on house arrest and any remaining time suspended.
In pleading guilty to the crime, Zamora, 22, of 1107 W. Chestnut St., Apt. B, admitted he participated with other people in unlawful use of force. Additional charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree assault against him are being dropped.
Police say he is one of five men involved in unarmed attacks on Cody J. Watson and Ryan C. Larson near a car in the 300 block of North Blue Street about 2 a.m. May 10. The assailants were claiming affiliations with a local gang, according to a police report.
Some of the attackers went through Watson’s pockets — allegedly taking miscellaneous items — and took off in the car.
Watson was treated at Providence St. Mary Medical Center for a concussion, a nasal fracture and lacerations.
Police said they have no clear motive. Neither Watson nor Larson has any known gang affiliation.
Zamora and the other defendants were charged in August.
Zamora turned himself over to authorities on Oct. 2, reportedly after learning a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
The other defendants remain at large.
They are identified as Juan M. Alejandre, 27, of 1108 W. Pine St.; Mario R. Deleon, 30, of 440 Sprague Ave., and his cousin, Thomas C. Deleon, 24, of Pasco; and Ray R. Gutierrez, 24, of 319 N. Seventh Ave.
