The early bird gets the tamale.
Downtown eatery Grandma’s Kitchen will open at 4 a.m. Friday for Black Friday shoppers working up an appetite.
Owner Josefina Cruz — “Doña Jose” — and her son, Manuel, are planning to serve fresh tamales, champurrado and corn chowder.
About 300 or so tamales will be on hand to serve to the masses, along with plenty of champurrado — a chocolate-based, warm and thick drink made with corn dough and cinnamon.
Grandma’s Kitchen opened at 36 S. Colville St. last September. Before that the business had been a regular vendor at the Downtown Farmers Market.
