Juanita P. Karr (Johnston), longtime Milton-Freewater resident, passed away Nov. 18, 2013, at the Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla at the age of 89. Memorial services will be Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater with Pastor Ronald Ashley officiating. Concluding services and a private interment will be in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mac-Hi Pioneer People through the funeral home.
Mrs. Karr was born July 14, 1924, in Potlatch, Idaho, the daughter of Albert Johnston and Itha Gertrude Hilloyce Johnston (Woodfin). She attended school in Idaho until age 9 when she moved to Milton-Freewater, graduating from McLoughlin High School in 1942. She married Earl Karr on Dec. 30, 1945. While Earl attended barber school in Portland, Juanita worked as an accountant. Once they moved back to Milton-Freewater, Juanita spent her life as a homemaker, raising their two daughters, Karen and Debra. They were active members of the Elks Lodge. She enjoyed dancing, traveling, cooking and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Karen, on Aug. 24, 2012; her half-sister, Geneva Jackson (Pelky); and two half-brothers, Alfred and Albert Pelky. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Scott Amon of Milton-Freewater; a granddaughter and her husband, Kortnie (Amon) and Gary Walter of Milton-Freewater; a grandson, Adam Amon of Ontario, Ore.; great-grandchildren, Alicia Walter, Chelsey Holford Walter, Alex Walter and Dustin Walter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
