PRESCOTT — Luis Garcia netted two goals and added three assists, as the Waitsburg-Prescott soccer team rolled to a 6-0 win against Moses Lake Christian here Monday.
With striker Ernesto Valdovinos held in check, W-P (5-2, 1-0) assistant coach Jay Potts said Garcia became the focal point of W-P’s offense.
“He’s a forward for us, so we have five weapons up there and he’s one of them,” Potts said of Garcia. “A lot of people got a lot of playing time, so we played our entire bench in the second half. Everyone played a lot so that was good for them.”
W-P jumped out to an early lead, as Ivan Figuero started the scoring with a goal in the third minute. Garcia followed him with back-to-back scores in the fourth and 19th minute.
Garcia then assisted on the next two goals, with Rodrigo Gonzalez connecting in the 19th minute and Alberto Sandoval scoring in the 37th minute.
With a 5-0 halftime lead, Emily Wilson added the final score in the 53rd minute.
W-P’s defense was equally impressive, as it held Moses Lake Christian to no shots.
Potts said it was an especially slow day in the net for keeper Christian Caros.
“That was really good to see,” Potts said of the W-P defense. “I don’t think they got across midfield very often. We just contained them on the offensive end of the field and controlled the whole game.”
W-P plays at Dayton at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
