DeSales takes five-set win from W-P


WAITSBURG — The DeSales volleyball team sealed a five-set win against Waitsburg-Prescott here Thursday.

W-P jumped out to an early lead, as it won the first set, 25-17, before the Irish (2-3 in Southeast 2B play) answered back in the second set, 25-22.

Waitsburg-Prescott responded with a third set win, 25-19, before DeSales took the fourth set, 25-19.

DeSales then clinched the match in the fifth set, 15-11. Irish head coach Hailee Rogers had nothing but praise for her team after the back-and-forth match.

“I was very proud of the way the girls finished the final set,” Rogers said. “We started out strong and didn’t let up, and that’s exactly what we needed. It was a great win and overall I thought we competed really well.”

Hannah Leahy finished with 13 kills and 16 digs for the Irish. Alyssa James added 12 kills and Claire Conley went 13-of-13 serving with 10 kills and five blocks. Allesyn Lyons dished out 19 assists and led the team with six aces.

DeSales heads to Asotin Tuesday, when W-P heads to Walla Walla Valley Academy.
