LA GRANDE — McLoughlin’s Josie Lonai ran to a first-place finish here Friday in the girls 3-mile Dry Side Shootout cross country race.
Lonai turned the course in 18:12.7 to easily outdistance La Grande’s Amanda Welch, who finished second in 18:54.1.
Mac-Hi’s Susie Romero-diaz crossed third in 19:08.8. Lonai and Romero-diaz led the Pioneers to third place on the girls side as host La Grande captured the title.
Austin Cousineau was the first Pioneer boy to finish, coming home sixth in 16:18.7. Enterprise’s David Ribich took the blue ribbon with a run of 14:37.7.
La Grande made it a sweep in the team competition as the Tigers captured the boys title. The Pioneers placed third.
Other top finishers for the Mac-Hi girls were Maria Saldana (25th, 23:52.3), Mindy Harmon (27th, 24:56.8), Jessica Romero (30th, 27:06.3) and Daisy Velasco (31st, 27:49.6).
Mac-Hi placed four runners in the top 30 of 52 runners: Tristan Warne (17th, 17:28.3), Andrew Kain (18th, 17:37.4), Colin Dygert (26th, 18:14.7), Cody Harmon (27th, 18:14.8).
